Appealing to what some have suggested is the national pastime of Bulgaria, the U.S. Embassy there is sponsoring a Gay, Lesbian and Transgender movie festival.[^] First movie up will be "Milk," starring Sean Penn. Instead of "Hands Across the Sea," this must be "Genitalia Across the Sea."

In real engineering, you do what works in practice, even if the theory says it fails. In social engineering, you do what theory says works, even if it fails in practice.

"The US, British, German, French, and Swiss Embassies in Bulgaria have announced the start of the Sofia Pride International Film Series ". Good for them! Since the country is 12% muslim, I glad we didn't just invade the place.

We're saving our ammo for Canada. They have more oil.

It depends. If Obama keeps driving up the price of oil in constant dollars, then oil sands will be a good investment. If any increase in price just comes from Bernanke's printing money, then you are absolutely right.

It'll never be a good investment, especially assuming your hypothetical of invading Canada.

Everything indicates we are in a liquidity trap and deflation, not inflation is the real danger.

It would be the height of irony if Bernanke, in an attempt to save us from a recession, turned it into a depression. However, I think a return to the Carter years of inflating prices and falling demand all at the same time to be more likely. One more QE ought to tip us over the edge.

Either the Republicans will send us and the rest of the world into a massively destuctive financial crisis by putting the government into default, or their threat to do so will result in huge cuts in government spending that will cause us to go into a long recession. I have very little faith that the Democrats will do the right thing. I have my doubts that - even though it is a winning issue - they will even defend Medicare and Medicaid.

IMHO James Warlick (the current US ambassador in Bulgaria) is not the brightest bear in the woods and since our current PM Borisov is a little retarded around the ears they would make one wonderful couple.

No need for such waste of efforts. Every morning our PM receives his orders directly from the US Ambassador in Sofia and follows them with the best of his limited abilities. Why need to invade such a good colony ally?

You might be surprised to discover how many websites questioned the idea of the U.S. spending taxpayer dollars encouraging Bulgarians to bugger each other - or should I say buggers to Bulgarian each other? Face it: the French are called cowards, the Brits are known for boiled meat and talking through their noses, Americans are dismissed as cowboys who substitute a six-gun for a penis, Germans are characterized as robots or drunkards, Japanese as having terrible teeth, and Bulgarians are famous for the Hershey road. No nationality deserves it, but that's the way it is and all the whining, all the requests to Chris to have me thrown off the site, all the personal insults you toss at me, though I have never - not once - gone after you, will not change the way the world turns or what makes people laugh. Humor is often cruel, and usually not too concerned with fairness. Live with it.

A very funny movie. Y'know Canada has given the US'uns three reasons besides the oil to invade: Celeste Dion, William Shatner, and, as the movie points out, Canadian beer sucks.

In real engineering, you do what works in practice, even if the theory says it fails. In social engineering, you do what theory says works, even if it fails in practice.

It's called outsourcing. Although I think John Candy was here on an H1-B.
