I have met one guy (a pretty stupid one let me say) who went to ribunals to fight a fine and he spent more than double of the fine cost to win the case... he won, but... You can fight it in the UK, and (with parking particularly) it is quite frequent to win your case. In the case of driving in a bus lane, it is very unlikely that you would win (ignorance of the fact it is a bus lane could be taken as driving without due care and attention) so it probably isn't worth fighting - particularly as you often get the fine reduced by 50% if you pay within 30 days or so.

more than a few people have gotten red light camera tickets dropped due to the picture being of poor quality. the defense? "that's not me driving" there have been a few stores about people wearing stupid masks as well and nobody could prove they were driving the car since they were not actually pulled over.

They changed the law in my state so that running a red light is no longer a moving violation, but is now a compliance violation. This means that the ticket is issued to the registered owner regardless of the driver.

wouldn't be surprised if the rest followed suit, as its really the only way to make the ticket stick.

I've swallowed the fine, yeah but I won't be eating in Manchester again.
At least it has no points - so it doesn't up your insurance, or risk your licence! :laugh: Bloody annoying though - I got a parking ticket when visiting an old lady in hospital because they were rebuilding and had dug up all the car parks. Looked like about 50 or so cars along with mine...

F*ck I was following traffic and I didn't realise it was a bus lane. A nice £30 fine thank you. They must of caught 100s of cars that day judging by the CCTV picture and the number car infront and behind me.:mad: I do hope to win the lottery so I can get the hell out of the UK.

Gotta be honest, I don't have a lot of sympathy if the ticket is correct and above board. Pay more attention to where you're driving rather than just following the crowd and you won't get a ticket. The excuse you're giving is no better than hitting a cyclist/motocyclist and saying you didn't see them, you're driving a car so pay real, actual attention to what you're doing. Given that in the City Centre there are retractable bollards that allow passage to only authorised vehicles however, it could have been far worse... Drivers Manchester lose the battle of the traffic bollard[^] More Bus Bollards Vs Cars[^]
