We had that already, it was called The Empire.

Viaducting, you really need to read a book. Slavery has existed for 10,000 years. One country stopped it. Britain. Not only did we stop using it, we went to war all over the world to stop slavery. Next time you feel like playing the hard done by oppressed minority, pause to look up the facts.

And Exploration, and Trade, and Intelligence, and Technological Know How. All these poor put upon peoples tell of how the British came and ruled them... No, we came with better stuff, that is all. You had the same amount of time to develop technology, but didn't. So we turn up with our clever railways and telegraphs and advanced machines and are faced with backward peasants eating rice with their fingers. Is that any different to what EVERY other country in the world does? You have a bug up your arse about the British Empire, but you are the fruit of that empire. We invented just about everything, and you use it. If you feel that strongly, turn off the computer (British), stop using computer code (British), or the world wide web (British), and get on your bike( oh, wait, that is British too), and go and do something that does not involve British technology. Truth is, the world is as it is now, and no matter how hard you dislike it, you cannot change it. So build a bridge and get over it.

I am not denying that "we" stopped it, nor that it existed before "we" got there. What "we" did do was massively expand it and turn it into an international trade that dwarfed anything that existed before. I merely wished to raise that fact to balance the "wasn't the Empire wonderful" posts.

Ah, you mean we bought the black African slaves that the other black Africans were selling? Gotcha. Still, I can't help noticing that it was a rather lucrative trade well before we entered it. What with the Arabs buying and selling at such a pace that Africa was doing rather well out of it before we got there! Irony... Stopping the slave trade impoverished the West African States, discuss.

You are projecting your own prejudices there about the way you imagine ex-colonials think. You are also forgetting I'm British, and I am proud of our inventions; but I am also not blind to the unpleasant episodes in our history.

I believe the common term here is FAIL Hungary, as an example has a constitution that is less than 20 years old and yet has existed as a soverign state for over 1,000 years. The United Kingdom has never had a constitution and yet it is definitely a country. Russia? France? Germany? China? Japan? All were countries for centuries long before the concept of a constitution ever existed. I would hazard a guess that most of the Old World countries have been sovereign for longer without constitutions than with.
