I find it fascinating as kids learn to read - I mean, we don't actually teach them to read, they just somehow 'get it' I jut volunteered to do some reading groups at The Boy's(TM) school a few times a week - and I can't wait! Once you can read, it's hard to imagine looking at words and not being able to read them - most words you simply can't stop yourself from reading. fascinating stuff! some stats that came up in talking about this: 80% of all words begin with only 10 different letters 70% of all words end with only 6 different letters Between 50% and 75% of all words in (children's) prose fall within a list of between 100 and 220 words Most 7-8 year olds can spell Bum, Poo and Wee * all words means all words in ordinary english prose.

Lucky it's not a spelling group!! Seriously though... have fun with that!! Giving your kids time is the best thing you can do for them!! I liked to read Dr Seuss for them when they were younger...

I love some of those books..We were given the Dr. Seuss Book "Oh, Baby, the Places You'll Go!: A book to be read in Utero[^]" when The Boy (TM) was but a glimmer - and it was great fun reading it to the lump - and reciting it when he was tiny always calmed him down. Baby Oh baby the places you'll go The worlds you will visit The friends you will know The horn tooting apes from the jungles of Jorn Will hoot a big toot on the day you are born

When I ws a kid it was Rhymes, Riddles and Nonsense, which I'd love to get again. it had such greats as What's big, red and eats rocks? and Why do birds fly south in winter? My favourite for reading to The Boy (TM) has been One fish Two Fish and the ABC book Big B little b what begins with B? barber, baby, bubbles and a bumble bee! What's not to love!

Well, you have to laugh! The Boy (TM) was writing a story the other day - he'd been asked to write one about what he'd done at the weekend, and was doing one about going to the skate park with his Dad (bless!) Head down, concentrating, coming up occasionally to ask how to spell words, all was good. Then he stops, looks up, and says "Dad, how do you spell 'Doofus'?"
