            I fear you are confusing the element Br, with the molecule Br3 (Br2 is, I believe, far more common.)

              he's saying that BBr3 (boron tribromide) is a known common relatively stable molecule whereas BBr (or BrB) is not.

                Yeah, that's what I was thinking. That's why I couldn't get the punch-line. I guess it's hard to see past even a rudimentary science education - no problems for Oakman, though, I would say.

In every case I have been talking about elements not molecules, indeed the first post was entitled "Its Elemental." You may have come in late, but a simple reread of the OP might have helped you realize that the reason I wrote "the bromine and the boron" was because I was talking about two separate substances, not a compound. Sorry for confusing you.

                        So if I say I left neon and xenon in the other room, you would assume I had discovered a new molecule? You may have inferred something that was not intended, but, again I repeat: this is the third post in a series which started with one called "It's elemental." In all three, the joke, such as it is, requires dealing with chemical symbol for an element not a compound. I don't see why you assumed this one was different from the others, but I apologize to you, too, if I somehow confused you.
