I spent some time working in Italy a few years ago with another English bloke, and he could not get his head around the working over there at all. First day, lunchtime, whole place closes, doors locked, off to a restaurant for a decent meal and a glass or two of wine. He kept asking "What if someone phones" to which they replied "They're at lunch" and so on and so on. I thought it was bloody marvelous.

Scheduled to work 8 hours a day, but work about 9. The position is salaried but we are treated like hourly. I must admit that the new IT Directory has helped at making the job more like a salaried position. As noted this subject was discussed a few days back.

Mostly it's 8 hours a day that I'm at work. I'm one of the lucky ones. Being in research I can say that I get paid to drink coffee and surf the internet, oh and I write code too. It has been on more than several occasions where I’m digging into some code just centimeters away from finishing the task at hand only to look at the clock and realize I should have left a half hour ago.
It was broke, so I fixed it.

It's part time (75%). I have 30 minutes for the lunch. :)

It's just part time (75%) most of my mates works 8 hours per day. :)

Had a place once that tried to tell me they require 10 hours per day but only pay for 8. Worse yet, the manager said my family life was a conflict of interest for me working longer. I told them to go to hell.

I get paid to do 7½ so 7½ I generally do. It's flexi-time so if I am in the middle of something at 5.30 I tend to stay and finish it and then go home early another day that month. I don't see the point in working for longer than you're being paid for, though – if they want you to work for longer then have something in the contract to that effect and pay you properly for it!

It depends, but usually 10 to 12 hours. Then again, I own the company so I'm a statistical outlier.

I have 'informal' flexi. There are two ways to approach it in my mind; 1. You have required hours and if more is needed they pay you for them. 2. You have required hours and if more are required then you can do less when they are not (formal or otherwise). I would not work for a company that only took and didn't give.
