Saw this headline for this article[^], and all I could think was, "Again?" Java, the web, netbooks, Google, phones, tablets... meh.

People are still going to want cheap high powered machines for things like gaming. Until portable computers become cheap enough to fill that need PCs will remain.

It was broke, so I fixed it.

He added that "while PCs will continue to be much-used devices", they're "no longer at the leading edge of computing" and are going the way of the vacuum tube, typewriter, vinyl records, CRT and incandescent light bulbs. He forgot "prophylactic" in the list above. It's obvious that his existence here indicates their diminished use, despite the fact that all concerned participants "knew better".

Depends on the work. You don't need particularly high specs for most work-type things (coding, word processing, and the like). (It is nice to have a faster computer though)

I use a pen very rarely and a pencil almost never. Evernote et al are replacing them, and just wait until I get an iPad or smartphone with stylus.

I'd disagree about devs not needing a high spec. sure you can write code on any old dog, but as soon as you start building everything goes all Kerry Katona. A good rule of thumb is to give devs a minimum of twice the box you give to users.

I went to a seminar a number of years ago, can't remember the subject or the speaker, but it was at a Progress event I think. The speaker said that the processing power should be given to the users and the devs could make do with what was left. I thought it was bollox at the time.

It was meant as a joke but I had a follow up chest X-Ray today because they found a spot on my lung, but I had bronchitis when I had it taken so I'm not overly worried but...?

I couldn't find that f'ing thing that peels the carrots and potatoes so I asked the kids if they've seen it. Apparently she left me yesterday.
