It was the constitution that enabled the US to do away with slavery. And, of course, very few seem to realize that throughout the existence of slavery, it was the dems who supported it, and the Republicans who fought it.

The difficult we do right away... ...the impossible takes slightly longer.

A colouring book designed to teach young children about the September 11 terrorist attacks[^] Not so much that it is wrong, but do young kids have to be aware of it?

It is tasteless in my opinion. By the time I would feel comfortable exposing my children to that kind of hatred I would think they'll be past colouring books.

Have to be? No. Is the book being forced into these kids' hands? Are parents required to show it to their kids by some governmental authority? If so, this is a fundamental wrong and should be stamped out. If, on the other hand, if it a simply another book that is available because the U.S. has a free press and free speech is guaranteed by the law of the land, then I fail to see what concern it is to anyone. From what I could gather, the book tells the truth. It calls the Islamists who perpetrated 9/11 (and killed friends and co-workers of mine) hijackers and terrorists. It shows the United State exacting a very high price for 9/11. Parents who want their kids to understand what happened can give their kids the book. Parents who want to forgive and forget, or who simply believe their children are not old enough to be exposed to those truths, will keep the book away from their kids, and let them remain ignorant. Stupidity is a condition: ignorance is a choice and one that some people make, over and over again, but nonetheless, which is always correctable.

And racial hatred speaches are prohibited by law, I hope. :) I would hope this book doesnt cross the line, but fomr the description it looks like it might do. Did we find the need to create colouring books of Hitler and the Nazis, after they were defeated, in order to show young kids just how bad they were, perhaps with picture of emaciated jews behind barbed wires whose uniforms coulld be coloured in in nice blue and white stripes? Of course not. And secondly just why do kids of an age who use colouring books need to be exposed to this kind of horror? Truct is one thing, but do you want your 3 year old girl learning about all the vile filth in the world? I dont.

Which brings us right back to the fact this this a coloring book. Now, of all things to explain to a child 9/11 is going to be one of the more difficult, as any instance of 'Yes there are people who want to kill you for often ill defined reasons' sits poorly with... pretty much everyone, let alone children. I was a teen when it happened, and honestly watched in utter disbelief as it did. Having gone through that I have to question, who with two functioning brain cells would present this portion of history to children through a god damn coloring book? I'm thinking they may have a condition, and a history of bad choices.

Quite, just why the hell does a three year old need to know this shit? Isn't life shitty enough without polluting the mind of an innocent with all the vile filth in the world? How about 'Nazi concentration camp colouring' books? That would be great, they can do the flames coming out of the ovens in all kinds of reds and oranges. Jesus Christ, enough is enough.

Again, I ask if this book is being forced on any family against its will. If so, we need to fight it. If not, we need to remember that this country guarantees free speech. If it is being distributed by a school or other governmental agency, it needs to stop.

IT IS FUCKING TASTELESS! Regardless of whether it is imposed or not. There are certain rules in society you know that not all members of society wish to follow, hence the existence of extreme right hate groups. Thats the problem with democracy, with freedom, you give power to the stupid, selfish, and greedy. They really should be under some measure of controll you know.

Exactly. Could you imagine a 'Nazi concentration camp' colouring book? How sick would that be? Yet equally justified if a 9/11 is.

Doesn't necessarily mean a permanent move... Could go expat for a few years, until the country comes to its senses. The only trick is finding a programming job in Toronto.

Perhaps you should learn French? Won't this give you a better chance in Canada? Interestingly Canada is one of the countries I would consider emigrating to, if only it wasn't so damn cold for so long.

Yeah. I have a lot of relatives in canada, cousins on both side of the familly. They are all in Vancouver I believe, which is quite nice I hear, though Quebec is the most historic looking.

No, I don't know. I do know that personal freedom is something viewed with suspicion by a number of arrogant little twirps. Of course you think that you personally should be in charge of deciding what should be read, published, and thought, but it's obvious to you that there are so many sheep out there that need your guidance and control. Pfaugh!

That's not the definition of troll, though it is one that is often offered up by trolls as a defense of their posting of remarks designed to piss people off. Go away, fat_boy. You're a loser.

He now thinks I am a pervert. Of course, he cant distinguish humour from reality. :)

Oakman is an insufferable busybody. Soapbox 1.0 has been emptying since it turned into the cult of Oakman, which is why he's been increasingly spewing his narcissism into Soapbox 2.0.
