I sometimes use chinese software, with that, I would put in the chinese characters to get the match, google.ca will bring up several pages with option to translate into english. same with any other offering. sometimes I will use the english version as well. google however has been quite good at finding what I need. I don't know if this helps much, I'm just going by my own pattern.

Probably my request was bad-phrased. I meant when you have to translate the software you build, not the software you use. Thanks anyway!

Are you serious? So you would just manually translate thousands strings in several languages and paste them into the IDE?

Not for thousands, but odd ones here and there. The problem is that I can only verify 2 languages, English and Afrikaans. :)

Would this be translating the code or interface? I "think" there may have been an article for changing language.. can't remember how far back I saw it though.

Short version: assume you need to translate the UI of the software your company builds in more languages (French, German, Italian, whatever), what would you type in Google? What search refinements would you do, if any, after the first query? Long version: we're in the software localization industry and we're trying to refine our website for better targeting search engines, so knowing what people search for is very important. If you're kind enough to answer me, then I owe you a hug. :-D So far I've been getting pretty much always the same answers, which is both comforting and frightening because it means we're on the right track but competition is fierce... I hope this request does not upset anyone here. Thanks!

When my company needed to translate our software into Italian we went to a local university and advertised for an Italian student. He did the job admirably. He also turned out to be far more intelligent than most of us working there and I believe is now in the senior management of the company. But I guess that doesn't help much.

I'd probably go with the following as an initial search: translation localization localisation service [source language] [target language] note the 2 spelling variants of localisation (UK vs US)

So you are basically trying to find someone translating your stuff, is that correct ? Why don't you try your luck here on CP ? I am sure you would get a lot of people interested in helping you against a few € (or $), and the translation would certainly be really accurate.

Then additionally to GParkings' post ( which now makes sense to me as well, all of a sudden :-\ ) translating UI [source][target] translating strings code [source][target] or the strings directly with the two languages, so I presume you would need to have all "common" strings as search keywords as well. On a side note, I'd be really interesting about your strategy to improve search targeting ! This is something I could need myself :)

Mmmh.. My problem is that the keywords people would use are pretty common (for instance for a real estate web site, you won't come out of the "sell buy house flat" aso...) so every website has the same registered keywords. And as you said, competition is fierce :)

That's pretty normal. You need to build links pointing to your website to better rank in search results. Hint: links whose text contains the keyword(s) are better than those simply mentioning the product name.
