Would be nice if you described the dish before you got into the detaisl of making it. You know - motivation, features and benefits before implementation details and stuff.

Yes, much better than before. I was going through some serious crunch time, now I'm done with that and waiting to get paid before I move out of Jordan.

The Hindus are vegetarians. Vegan is a bullshit concept, which goes against evolution (we start by feeding on breast milk, right?) Jains are vegetarians, and they additionally avoid root vegetables (beetroot, carrot, etc.,). Their philosophy is that the plant is being destroyed in order to obtain such vegetables, so that's a life taken, which is equivalent to killing an animal to them. So, a typical Jain will see onion like he sees meat, but he'll happily consume milk, because no life is harmed or destroyed in the extraction of milk. Sikhs are vegetarians too. There are also Eggatarians, who are vegetarians, but additionally consume eggs.

Not all Hindus are vegetarians. Mallu Hindus actually are nearly always non-vegetarian.

Veganism applies to non-human animal products. It's a personal choice not associated with any religious belief. So drinking breast-milk is okay with vegans. BTW just as you veggies think veganism is stupid, us meat eaters think veggies are stupid. It's a vicious cycle :-)

Good, I did something right for the Vegetarians :) somewhat OT: I've always wondered, are Hindus/Jainists/Sikhs Vegetarian or Vegan? Because I've met both.

Veganism is always a by-choice thing and not associated with any religion. Pracatising Jains are always vegetarian as it's an integral part of Jainism. Sikhs can be either vegetarian or non-vegetarian. There is no strict code there. As for Hindus, a vast majority do not eat porrk or beef, but based on various stats I've seen around 75% of Indian Hindus eat meat of some form (mostly chicken, lamb, fish). We still have the caste-system under hinduism although it's not as hierarchial as it used to be. What I mean is there is no concept of upper or lower castes, just different castes. There is a caste of Hindus called brahmins who are typically vegetarians. Except in West Bengal where the brahmins eat fish and Kerala where the brahmins eat egg.

I agree. I should have made it clear that there are sub divisions of all types. :)

There is also a school of thought that the ancient hindus were meat eaters. Vegetarianism and various other practises were later additions. Of course all this is debatable and you'll always have 3 sets of scholars with opposing arguments. Also it's all relative. A friend of mine (non-veg) said she could not believe how I could eat raw fish (sushi/sashimi). I told her that many vegatarians would feel similarly about eating cooked fish. In fact, for a guy who eats pretty much anything, I still feel queasy when people talk about eating roaches and worms. So even I have my limits as to what I consider eatable.

Hindus: It is a very broad term for a religion. Hinduism has many branches which act according to their belief/culture/religion/whatever. So you will find both vegetarian and non-vegetarian Hindus. Jain: According to their religion, they should not harm any living creature. Hence, they do not eat egg, meat etc along with roots kind of things. Sikhs: They love tandori chicken. They are mostly non-vegetarians but they do not eat halal because of their religious belief. Also, they do not eat pork/beef etc. Vegans: It has nothing to do with any of the Indian religions.
