I was just assigned a new project to convert a decades-old mainframe process to .Net. I have been looking at COBOL code all afternoon. X| It has been years since I touched COBOL and now I feel dirty. I am going to get a volcanic rock and stand under the shower and scrub myself until the hot water runs cold and the cold water runs dry.

Life is too short to code in COBOL.

What tools are you using? I'm seeing more interest in COBOL and also seeing some cool new tools coming out.

No new tools. It's a conversion, so the COBOL program will be dead as fast as I can drive a stake in its heart. :) Nothing more sexy than a C# Windows Forms application. They may decide to put it on the Web, so that could change things a little.

Just be glad it wasn't an Autocoder program running under emulation in VM. Used to be lots of that back in the day. Made for some real "Tylenol moments".

Yes, but you can never wash away the dirtiness that is left in your brain from such a horrific and traumatizing experience. Years of therapy and some good meds might help. :)
