Same here but with The Witcher 2. If I start to explain how beautiful and challenging this game is it will take me the whole morning, so I will restrain myself.

Oh, I used to play TTD all the time... I still find myself humming the music tracks now and then... Tried playing some of it on my trumpet, but I'm way out of practice :) I moved away from Civ, though... Didn't like Civ3 or Civ4 much (Though I did try them out once they went on clearance sale)... But Civ5 is great :) Addicting, but great. You're going to hate me for saying this.... but..... You know there's an open-source TTD remake now ("OpenTTD")... Cross-platform... There's even an Android version, but it kind of sucks because you have to drag the mouse cursor around instead of just clicking things directly.

I haven't tried the OpenTTD, although I did know of its existence. I spent many years playing around with TTD Patch, and getting the game working on Windows 7 was a great relief, even though I haven't played it since doing so, I just wanted to know that I could. Downloaded all sorts of new graphics for it too.

I know how you feel (though I've never played Civilization). Age of Empires does the same thing to you. Before I even knew it, I had spent 5-6 hours playing it, every sitting. Good fun! :)

Yep, played that back in the day... Still, it's real-time, so it doesn't go nearly as long as a Civ game... One "large" game in Civ could take several days to play... I was on a "Standard" size world on a pretty low difficulty level, and it still took me seven hours. Granted, with RTS games, it's not "Just one more turn!"... It's "Just one more game!"

I used to love Civilization II: Test Of Time, I love all games like that, Settlers used to steal days from me too. Transport Tycoon Deluxe as well. Haven't played in a long, long time. Just too dangerous.

Settlers, huh? Years ago I sat at a table with the developers for an interview and we talked quite a bit about Settlers III and Incubation.

Oh, OpenTTD works great on Win7... I have it installed on my EeePC too (Ubuntu Linux)... No music, though... Gotta copy over the music from the original, if you still have it lying around.

If it only does 5 or 6 hours it's not in the same league as civ. A typical round of Civ gamelock starts on Saturday morning and is still going when the daystar returns the next day.

Yeah, that was the version I used to play Settlers III. Of course these games all came out whilst I was at uni, which could go some way to explaining my shite degree.

So I just picked up Civilization V last week, and started playing this weekend... What a horrible, evil computer game... No, it's amazing... It's that blasted "Just one more turn!" thing... Start a game at 7pm or so... Nice and relaxing... Fighting off the Aztecs and building up my technology... Next thing I know, it's 11pm as I move into the industrial age and the Greeks invite me to help exterminate the Persians... Hmm, I should really go to sleep, but... well... just a few more turns... Midnight... The war with the Persians wasn't profitable enough to continue, so I let them surrender after taking a couple of their cities... Now the Greeks are getting scared of me... Hmm... It's really late... I gotta get up at 7am... Well... Just one more turn... 1am... The Greeks are really getting annoying, and the Brits and the Americans keep asking me to help them kill the other one... So annoying to be the only one with a blue-water navy and stealth bombers, while they're rolling out cannons alongside their swordsmen... Ugh, I shouldn't be awake... Well, I'll just steamroll the Greeks and go to bed... 1:45am... The last Greek city falls... Ugh, no, they have an outpost on the other side of the world! Gah, that'll take ten turns to wipe out, and I just won by finishing the Utopia Project anyway....... But I came this far, didn't I? 2:00am... The ACTUAL last Greek city falls. Finally, I can go to bed. 7:00am... The alarm clock rings. Ughhhhhhh I need to remember not to play that game on weeknights... I need some caffeine......

I used to be able to do that... Just can't get lost in coding anymore, late at night... Always too burned out from my 9-to-5.

You eradicated Aztecs, Persians and Greeks?

Wait, wait, wait... I didn't eradicate the Aztecs... They just raided me a little at the beginning... Then I ambushed their little swordsmen with my Roman Legions and Crossbowmen as soon as they reached my borders... Then it was kind of like: "Oh, did I say 'Die'? i meant 'Hi!' So sorry for the misunderstanding... Here, have some gold!" They were my best friends for the rest of the game. And I only beat on the Persians until they stopped bugging me... And gave me all of their money, resources, and one of their cities :-D

I know the feeling, man... I just wish I had the brainpower to spare these days... Maybe next time I change jobs, I'll take a few months to do all of those projects I decided weren't worth the effort.

You do realise that thousands of years from now a barely legible copy of your posting will be found, and that you'll be added to the history books as one of the worst warmongers and tyrants in history, don't you?
