I know how you feel (though I've never played Civilization). Age of Empires does the same thing to you. Before I even knew it, I had spent 5-6 hours playing it, every sitting. Good fun! :)

If it only does 5 or 6 hours it's not in the same league as civ. A typical round of Civ gamelock starts on Saturday morning and is still going when the daystar returns the next day.

Settlers, huh? Years ago I sat at a table with the developers for an interview and we talked quite a bit about Settlers III and Incubation.

Yeah, that was the version I used to play Settlers III. Of course these games all came out whilst I was at uni, which could go some way to explaining my shite degree.

So I just picked up Civilization V last week, and started playing this weekend... What a horrible, evil computer game... No, it's amazing... It's that blasted "Just one more turn!" thing... Start a game at 7pm or so... Nice and relaxing... Fighting off the Aztecs and building up my technology... Next thing I know, it's 11pm as I move into the industrial age and the Greeks invite me to help exterminate the Persians... Hmm, I should really go to sleep, but... well... just a few more turns... Midnight... The war with the Persians wasn't profitable enough to continue, so I let them surrender after taking a couple of their cities... Now the Greeks are getting scared of me... Hmm... It's really late... I gotta get up at 7am... Well... Just one more turn... 1am... The Greeks are really getting annoying, and the Brits and the Americans keep asking me to help them kill the other one... So annoying to be the only one with a blue-water navy and stealth bombers, while they're rolling out cannons alongside their swordsmen... Ugh, I shouldn't be awake... Well, I'll just steamroll the Greeks and go to bed... 1:45am... The last Greek city falls... Ugh, no, they have an outpost on the other side of the world! Gah, that'll take ten turns to wipe out, and I just won by finishing the Utopia Project anyway....... But I came this far, didn't I? 2:00am... The ACTUAL last Greek city falls. Finally, I can go to bed. 7:00am... The alarm clock rings. Ughhhhhhh I need to remember not to play that game on weeknights... I need some caffeine......

Oh, OpenTTD works great on Win7... I have it installed on my EeePC too (Ubuntu Linux)... No music, though... Gotta copy over the music from the original, if you still have it lying around.

Yep, played that back in the day... Still, it's real-time, so it doesn't go nearly as long as a Civ game... One "large" game in Civ could take several days to play... I was on a "Standard" size world on a pretty low difficulty level, and it still took me seven hours. Granted, with RTS games, it's not "Just one more turn!"... It's "Just one more game!"

Very addicting but also very annoying in moments. It’s kinda makes you to realize why some leaders hate their own people. :)

Wait, wait, wait... I didn't eradicate the Aztecs... They just raided me a little at the beginning... Then I ambushed their little swordsmen with my Roman Legions and Crossbowmen as soon as they reached my borders... Then it was kind of like: "Oh, did I say 'Die'? i meant 'Hi!' So sorry for the misunderstanding... Here, have some gold!" They were my best friends for the rest of the game. And I only beat on the Persians until they stopped bugging me... And gave me all of their money, resources, and one of their cities :-D

High budget project. The first one was game of the year, but the second one is far better. I’ve never seen a game where the forests look like a forest, the castles look like a real castel the villages, the rivers etc. The battles are challenging and require a good reflex and tactics. Amazing story and interesting characters and a lot of choices. A little harsh on moments, like you are witnessing a female elf with an amusing body making the short drop on the gallows and the brothels are actually working and you can hire a girl for some money and see some tits and other things (a mild erotic, don’t get me wrong). The character and the NPC movements are very real and it also could be a very spooky at times, especially in the caves, dungeons, torture chambers or in the forest during the night. All in all one of the best games I’ve ever played so far. And I’m in the beginning; I estimate probably 50-60 hours to finish the game. Edit: Interesting mini games like gambling, fist fights (those are tricky) etc.

Hmm, sounds fun... Always love an RPG with a good storyline... Fallout, Oblivion, Dragon Age. Might try it out next time it goes on sale (Gotta love the sales on Steam :) )

Computer games don't have this effect on me, or at least none has for a very long time. I recognize the feeling though. VS/CP do it to me on a regular basis.

Tell me about it, POH has a lot to answer for with "Stupid Zombies", don't know how many hours I have spent on that......glad I never took it offshore with me! I managed to complete the first 240 Levels of Chapter 1, (think it was 240, 4 stages 60 levels each if i recall). Carry on with Chapter 2 when I go home next time.

Oh, OpenTTD works great on Win7... I have it installed on my EeePC too (Ubuntu Linux)... No music, though... Gotta copy over the music from the original, if you still have it lying around.

I've just downloaded OpenTTD with music, following the links on their download page.

Me neither, normally, but I've just downloaded Portal, free from Steam for a limited period, and I can see myself getting stuck quite fast to that.
