I made the huge mistake of installing it on my dev machine - 2 days and counting now to recover from it. Currently having to remove then reinstall VS 2010 as the setup project has gone missing.

Hi, I (and perhaps others ?) would appreciate it if you might say more about what problem you encountered. There is a CP forum for VS 11 and .NET 4.5[^], albeit flat-lining since September 11. Please note: I am not criticizing you for posting this here, I am just curious to know more. I've installed VS 11, and VS Studio 2010 Pro was already installed, and, so far, no problems with 2010. best, Bill

One example is I set the the colour on HighlightBrushKey to set the highlight colour on the WPF datagrid. Installing VS2011 stopped that from working (it still doesn't work after VS2011 was uninstalled) so I had to find a different way to set the highlight colour. Setup projects have always been a pain in VS2010 - I have to delete the project and rebuild it from scratch almost every time i run a setup build but now the setup executables have disappeared - this is made worse by IT denying any access to the local DVD drive so I can't reinstall it until later today.

As it's only October 3rd, I'm not too worried about the flatline state. Anyway, I am playing about with something that will form my first blog post on it - specifically mixed language applications; the UI in C#/XAML with the VM in C++. It's kind of fun dusting off the old cobwebs - and you'll see in it why I'm recommending C++ to get round the INotifyPropertyChanged code smell.

Forgive your enemies - it messes with their heads

Hi Pete, Wasn't meaning to imply there's something wrong with the new forum :) Of course the game is just barely afoot. My intuition, however (often wrong ... that intuition), is the VS 11/.NET 4.5 forum might get more traffic if it was named 'Win8.' Look forward to your article ! best, Bill

I always use a VM to install and test betas, CTPs, etc.

FYI, you may be reading the date incorrectly. Last post I see is "28 Sep '11", as in the 28th of September, 2011.

I found it better to install Win8 in a VHD rather than a VM.
