Too generic? No more so than Apple's latest.

Well now that Jobs is dead, their average asshole-ness went down, so they are quickly taking measures to bring that up to their expectations. :-D

Can I use prior art against that?

No. Prior art only covers the left side of the face. Completely different thing, altogether.

This is a patent that should never have been granted. It's so obvious as to be second-nature. It's like granting a patent on displaying the * while entering a password into a textbox. Simply ridiculous! And obscene!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

It is definitely brilliant, as illustrated by how pervasive it has become. But the bottom line is that someone invented it.

I guess this explains why Google has facial recognition unlock in the Android 4.0 release... Smart move.

Yeah, which at the demo failed to unlock when the person tried unlocking his own phone, but then unlocked with a different person! Facial recognition...so, what happens if I shave my beard? What happens when I hold up a picture of the person instead? I'm quite happy to punch in my access code. I don't want no stinkin' facial recognition that my cat could use to unlock my phone! Marc

Apple has been granted a patent on unlocking a smartphone or tablet using a touchscreen gesture.
Explain that one! I think Apple, Microsoft and Google between them are becoming the most obnoxious patent trolls since Marconi. Here's the patent[^] if you should care.

Someone got a patent for "a method to thermally refresh bread". Basically you expose it to some heat and poof it becomes tastier. That's right, someone got a patent for toast. Something we've been making for thousands of years.

Looks like it'll be a CPian party there with Nagy being there too. Maybe we should go out for a few beers once I beat you both in court? :-D

We need to take all the software patents and apply liberal amounts of cleansing fire to them. Throw in a few lawyers logs for even burning.

Yes, it's like patenting using the keyboard in order to use a PC that has a keyboard. But, this is the patent office's MO right now. They just approve whatever garbage they see rather than getting people who might know what the hell they're talking about to look at it. It's cheaper that way. It doesn't help that patent lawyers intentionally word patent applications to be as confusing as possible, to the point that you need the rosetta stone to figure out what the **** they're even talking about.
