Edith Piaf, Les trois cloches[^] Try to distance yourself from the judge:)ment of time, and appreciate it for its pure musical, melodic quality and power. It is a great song. One of the best ever. Enjoy, I hope you do. :) --edit-- Edith Piaf, the original Any WineHouse. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89dith_Piaf[^] A true great of music. --edit 2-- Get an mp3, it is even better. :) --edit 3-- If you follow the words you will be even more astounded by the depth of the song. Seriously, they are profound. :)

I am a fan of Edith Piaf but in this case: Better than the Johnny Mathis version (Can't find a clip, for which all should be thankful and not just for the sh1t words) Not as good as the Slim Whitman[^] rendition, which in turn is not as good as the Roy Orbison[^] one IMO. I prefer Edith belting out the old Torch Songs La vie en rose[^] for example, or Non, je ne regrette rien[^] or Milord[^]. For my money they suit her voice more.

I'm with Henry. Edith is great, but she's got better.

For my taste the Roy Orbison version was miles better - Piaf was a "warbler"; she would never hold the note. This is also what puts me off so much opera as well - the female stars (aka "The Fat Ladies") generally didn't either.

Nice one:thumbsup: She explains at the beginning that it has been seven years since they all sang together - and that even if some of the bells don't sound quite right they will manage to get to the end of the song...

I get you, what really gets me is the male vocalist and the harmonising. The arrangement. It is sooo goood. We just dont do that quality tody, it is a shame. --edit-- The Roy Orbison has not go tht e depth, and drama, of the backing vocals of the Piaf version. Sorry, but it just doesnt compare. :) By teh way, I like Orbison, one of the greatest singers with an extraordinary vocal range, but he doesnt do this song justce.

For my taste the Roy Orbison version was miles better - Piaf was a "warbler"; she would never hold the note. This is also what puts me off so much opera as well - the female stars (aka "The Fat Ladies") generally didn't either.
