Ouch you took it in the most serious way one can take. That was meant in a very light tone.

Perhaps you might want to consider the joke icon next time so that misunderstandings are avoided.

Elaine left us, didn't she? Or is she back?

I emailed Elaine a while back asking her to reconsider. Sadly she felt that the same attitudes that drove her away from the site were still prevalent.

I know you probably aren't aware of it but that statement was incredibly patronising, sexist and crass. It's precisely this attitude that has driven the female contingent away. I am sure they face bias and sexism in real life, so they don't need to encounter it here.

People need to stop being so damn sensitive, politically correct and hypocrtical. If you for one minute think, you would'nt get statements that are patronising, sexist or crass, if the the posts were dominated by females. I would have to say, that you need to wake up, and smell the roses. Women can be just as vulgar, condescending, insensitive, etc as men. As far as I am concerned, if the girls want to play with the boys then they need to accept the way boys are and vice versa. Having said this, it does not mean, that we should not be polite and considerate to other members feelings. It means if a light hearted comment comes along, that might be interpreted as crass, patronizing or politically incorrect by some, then don't get your panties in a twist, see it for what it is, a joke.

First, the programming industry's male-to-female ratio has always been overwhelmingly weighted towards males. I've met exactly two female programmers in my 30-year career. One was only doing it until they hired me, and the other had been moved into the position "to see if she could handle it". I personally treated them like programmers first, and women second. Other coworkers not only treated them like women first, but they treated them like they were stupid BECAUSE they were women. This was the primary reason they were either looking for non-programming jobs, or happy to hand the job to someone else. There are many more female system admins than there are female programmers (I know two right at the moment). I don't understand why it's so important to know how many female programmers there are on CP. I know of three or four that WERE here, and that one of them recently requested that her account be deleted because of some of the people here. So, grow up and mind your own business.

Yes, CP is lacking in women in general. During the last 3 years I have been really active and completely off the grid for several months. We have some regular women in other countries, but I think I've been one of the main ones from the US.

You are obviously not married. One of the first things you will learn when you become married is that if a man farts in the woods and no one is around to hear it he has still done something wrong.

I started the thread to encourage women participation & not to know their number @ CP... sometimes, I feel a taunt brings more people together than a praise and hence was the question asked!! :) :)
