Just been in the pay rise meeting, managed to get 5% for the elves. They will be happy, as I have been downwardly managing expectations for a few weeks, preparing them for 2%. I shall inform them of my hard efforts on their behalf and so make myself appear as a curmudgeonly, and yet kindly, boss, who is willing to go the extra mile for his team. I shall not tell them that I am getting 8.5% :) That would send out the wrong message entirely.

I think I have been getting a negative 3% raise annually for the last few years.

5% for the same role is very, very good in the current economic situation. (I got 9% but that's because it was essentially a semi-promotion.)

Those promotions are nice, aren't they? :-D I managed about 30% last year, but I doubt I'll go much higher until the GM retires. As Engineering Manager, there isn't any other slot for me to occupy until then.
