My son was too fucking stupid to undo the seatbelt for her as I was screaming for him to do, so she threw up some more. We got down here and proceded to waste about 3.5 hours getting something for lunch and wandering around the shops for-fucking-ever. My daughters still sick and I'm as impatient as ever. So now we're in the supermarket and buying all forms of shit cause my son (15 in 18 days) wants to cook up something fancy. So I get to spend ages while they choose shit, knowing I'll be washing everything in the motel apartment kitchen before cooking begins and then again afer we finish. So we get all that done, the kids fucked off to bed by about 11:00 and then the Missus says she don't feel like a root. So it's at this point I'm quite happy to be finishing off Double Rum and Pepsi Max number 5 and start pouring number six. Luckily or all involved, I'm off the piss.

It all depends on the people you hire and how dedicated they are. I tend to think it would sort of end up like free coffee in the cafe or other free perks. Some people use them, some don't. There might be a positive side-effect. Think about the most useless, unproductive people you have ever worked with. Would they abuse this? Maybe this would end up being a productivity booster for your good people, by getting the losers out of the office. The lazy people would be tempted to take more and more time off, eventually leading to their termination for pure lack of performance. Maybe this is actually a honey-trap for the lazy.

I think that is the main idea behind this scheme. Lazy people will overdose these type of vacations and become fired automatically ! while hard worker ones will take its benefits.

As others have pointed out, you'd have to hire people who want to work and fire the lazy people who don't. After that, this policy will probably result in less vacation time being taken. I know how much vacation I'm allowed, I take a a few days here, a few days there, a week in the summer and then the in December I'm taking vacation just to use it up. Without a set number of vacation days, I probably wouldn't take more off the rest of the year, and I wouldn't feel the need to take vacation in December because of "use it or lose it" policies...

Considering that I had to put at least one programmer on probation (preparatory to firing) to get any work out of him, I would say that most programmers are taking unlimited vacation on the job. Let us see the univoters clobber me now!
