I understand that bit, I am wondering why it is important for ASP.NET work. Does ASP only work on lightweight machines?

I'm gonna buy a Laptop with weight lower than 2KG for ASP.Net programming. I prefer ASUS , because of my friends recommendations. Whats your recommendation ? It would be appreciate if you guide me to determine an specific model.

Regardless of which model you end up selecting, try to choose one that has a 7200 rpm drive. IMHO, a 5400 rpm hard disk will detract from the laptop's (otherwise good) performance. /ravi

I've never owned nor used an ASUS but have always had good experiences with Toshiba Laptops. Some of their more recent models have had good reviews so if you are unable to find a suitable ASUS then you might want to consider them. It is difficult for anyone to recommend a specific model from any manufacturer because there are thousands that weigh less than 2KG. How about one of the Eee Netbooks, they all weigh less than 2KG and you can certainly do ASP work on them but they may not do it as quickly as you like. You would need to be more specific about the components that you want and their sizes. Once you have made your list you will then be in a better position to search manufacturers sites for yourself than members here. All we can do is recommend brands we like and warn about ones we've had problems with.

I think I'd prefer something barely luggable, like: HP EliteBook 8760w[^] I guess I'd go for the NVIDIA Quadro 4000M graphics card, at least 16 GB ram and the 750GB HD. Configuring and setting up a proper development system costs more than the system, so I try not to do that too often.

But lightweight machines tend to have a smaller volume, you cannot put as much into them as bigger form factors!

I'm waiting for the new 15" laptops (or to give them the correct buzzword they are being sold under Ultrabooks) that were announced from the likes of Acer at the recent CES.(e.g. Looky[^]) or the Samsung Series 9. (Looky[^]), other brands are also at it, so waiting for specs to be finalised and published, but the 1600x1200 resolution of the samsung sounds good. Should be with us in the not too distant future.

The problem with that is that by the time they arrive, someone else is "soon going to release" an even better one. At some point you have to say "That'll do" and get it now. It'll be out of date by the following Monday anyway.

5'd, and it's light, and it won't drain the batteries (which are pretty much the limiting factor in terms of weight).

And you never have to leave the laptop on for defragging. SSD's just makes so much more sense in a laptop.

Yes, but the current laptops are pretty crap, and finding one with a decent screen resolution that doesn't way a ton, or cost a fortune is impossible. If I can find a reasonable spec'd, higher resolution 15", reasonably thin machine similiar to those linked in my post, then I'll take one. My currently lappy is just holding in there and no more. I can see it dying in the next 6 months. You may recall the post I made earlier this year about laptop screen resolutions and why quote the stupid lettering scheme in the specs and not just quote the damn numbers! :)

I'm gonna buy a Laptop with weight lower than 2KG for ASP.Net programming. I prefer ASUS , because of my friends recommendations. Whats your recommendation ? It would be appreciate if you guide me to determine an specific model.

What you definitely should have is an SSD and a docking station. And remember, in computers you get what you pay for, so if it's a work laptop you shouldn't go cheap. Personally I'm using Dell Latitude, and have no complaints. I have had Asus laptops before and I'm happier with Dell, but the Dells have also been more expensive. Also remember that they have different support levels for cheap and expensive computers. Dells support for cheapo computers suck elephant balls, while the pro-support leave nothing extra to wish for.
