Cut instead of Copy?

I just replied to a post using the 'Quote Selected Text' button (something which i can't get to work on the iPad, so don't use it too much) and noticed that it seemed almost to cut rather than copy.... Has it always been thus? Is it just me? Are the hamsters overly peckish?

Cut from where? Are you saying you can modify posts that you reply to? :~

Are you saying...nothing appears to have been deleted (although previously i cold have sworn the entire selected text disappeared. It's only apparently changing my current view of the post - not updating it as source.
