Bill O'Reilly standing up for Ellen DeGeneres[^] Worth watching  It's about JC Penny, who have chosen Ellen Degeneres as their spokesperson. One Million Moms, a mathematically-challenged group of 40,000 bored, whiny stay-at-home pastors’ wives really hate the gays. So they called for a boycott - and received a close down for their facebook group page.

The anchor says that it is wrong for people to demand what they are demanding. The people demanding think it is wrong for Ellen Degeneres to be representing that company because she is gay. What's the difference? These kinds of debates that are based solely on opinions are a massive waste of time. We have quite a few of those (albeit other topics) on Indian TV too but I watch it for pure entertainment.

How is this any different than the pressure put on Komen for initially stopping funding of Planned Parenthood? They "fired" Planned Parenthood for what they were doing. They were expressing an opinion and put their money where their mouth is, and were lambasted for it.

You've got the Komen scenario precisely backwards. The mentality that drove Komen was to stop funding an organization that was doing precisely what the Komen foundation is for because a religious fanatic disagrees with another planned-parenthood policy.* So, both the pressure on JC Penny to fire Ellen Degene and Komen to stop funding Planned Parenthood are derived from the same source: religious zealots who wish to impose their view upon those around them. *In particular, consider that the anti-abortion motivation would have (and may still) result in woman losing their lives to breast cancer. Anti-Abortion. Anti-Gay. What target will next be on their agenda should they ever succeed? I suggest we all look in the mirror - because sooner or later it will be us.

Oh, quit being obtuse! My point was the "pro-abortion" people put pressure on Komen to "hire" Planned Parenthood back. Komen expressed an opinion and acted on it by firing PP (whatever the initial reasons) and were lambasted for it. They were pressured to hire PP back. In addition, both the pressure for Komen to hire PP back and the "outrage" over Million Moms telling JC Penney to fire Ellen Degeneres are derived from the same "source". Why is it OK for that source to have a voice, but not ok for the "religious zealots" to have a voice? Hypocrite!

Keenly acute is more like it. The common point, in both cases, was pressure put on an entity by those wishing to force their [religious] point of view upon others. In the case of Komen/PP, they may have yet succeeded; in the case of JC Penny, they were told them to take a long walk on a short pier. Common cause, at least as I see it.

Yes, and my point was just the same. Why is OK for one group, that YOU approve of, to put pressure to enforce its views, while it's not OK for another group YOU DISapprove of to enforce its, perhaps opposite, views? You're a hypocrite! And you're a bigot!

Anything mentioning lesbians tends to get voted down on here. I've never quite worked out why. I'm guessing someone's wife ran off with another woman.
Every man can tell how many goats or sheep he possesses, but not how many friends.
Or it got voted down because it doesn't belong in the lounge

lesbians don't belong in the lounge?

LOL. Lesbians are welcome to lounge wherever they like, I suppose. The post, you idiot! :-P JOKE ALERT!

The overriding opinion of the lounge was "So?" or "Whateva!" or "Well done for having the courage to tell us, now do you have any good jokes" He wasn't sent packing to the soapbox or the back room.

You must accept one of two basic premises: Either we are alone in the universe, or we are not alone in the universe. And either way, the implications are staggering” - Wernher von BraunActually, I've not voiced my views on what I think of homosexuality, one way or another. I consider it more abstractly. Example: 'Gay Marriage' - whatever my religious beliefs, we are talking about a legal/civil event. There should be (in my opinion) any religious input into how the decision is made, but one based only upon human rights. My only objection is that if one recognizes a particular alternative lifestyle (in legal terms) it is discriminatory not to recognize (all?) others. Following this (to an extreme point), how should a corporation handle employee family medical benefits when an employee's declared family unit is six adults and many many a child? Will this destroy the benefit system? Back to original subject: I don't see even a vague parallel in the choice of a spokesperson and supplying potentially lifesaving diagnostic services to women. What I do disapprove of is that these zealots infested the board of directors of Komen - but their agenda apparently isn't that of helping women but rather political control. It is clear that their driving force is not that of Komen's avowed mission, but that of subverting it for their own ends. My argument is based upon principals - in a large portion, to a religious one: Do not do unto others what you would not have them do unto you.
