I don't dispute any of that. I guess I'm just posing the question, why is the sale of alcohol different? It can also be dangerous and addictive.

there have been suits against alcohol makers, but the courts usually say things like "the dangers are commonly known". people have known about alcohol's effects since the beginning of history, so it's hard to argue that you didn't know what you were getting into.

Ah, The Noble Savage. Of course part of the problem is physiological. They do not have the enzymes necessary to metabolise the hooch, similar to people of the far east and aborigines in Australia, so they get affected much more than those of an indo-european background who have had beers and wines in their cultures for tens of thousands of years.

If this is the case, then why do the filthy dirty thieving gypsies Roma suffer in a similar way? They've been living in Europe for ages and so should be used to the effects of alcohol. That said, I'm pretty ropey after a night on the Pálinka and I think it can be said I can take a few glasses.

It can also be beneficial. Carrots will kill you if eaten in a large enough quantity, but I do not see warning sign on them.

That's just silly. One of them says it may be "casually" related to lower heart disease. That's a stretch. Another talks about wine and helping the heart. What is wine made of? Grapes. Yes, grapes are excellent for the heart so, no, it is not the alcohol. I challenge anyone to drink straight alcohol and see if it has benefits. It's a poison. Even if it has side-effects of helping the heart, which is a long stretch why would you, drink poison to strengthen your heart? I could lose weight by cutting of an arm too. So, what's your point?

Ha. :-D True...but I don't think the numbers are very high for the number of people killed in car accidents due to people abusing carrots, or the number of people who seek treatment for carrot addiction, or carrot overdose.

Risks and Benefits of Alcohol[^] Personally, I think alcohol suffers a bit from the desperate researcher syndrome - do enough studies on something popular and you'll find a benefit - but who on earth would you ever recommend regular alcohol consumption to in order to improve their overall health?

Oh dear, you are conflating. Oxygen is a poison. In fact there was a time when the earth went through an oxygen crisis. The crisis being that there was too much oxygen and most life died. Too much of anything will kill you. Warfarin is a deadly poison, so obviously they give it to people with heart conditions and those at risk of a stroke. Small amounts of alcohol are beneficial, there is undoubted proof of stress reduction.

This argument again? Come on. Alright, you win. Go drink as much alcohol as you can and see what happens. If you think you are right, take my challenge. Drink as much alcohol as you can and see if it benefits you. It's really that simple. Find a doctor who recommends you drink more alcohol to stay healthy.

When I was in Oklahoma any native american got free health care at any hospital. I can't say about other states, but there was a large population of native americans in OK so it was just common knowledge. The hospitals I went to there were, IMO , better than we have here in Illinois.

When I was in Oklahoma any native american got free health care at any hospital. I can't say about other states, but there was a large population of native americans in OK so it was just common knowledge. The hospitals I went to there were, IMO , better than we have here in Illinois.

i think the issue is that there's not a lot of routine health care for the more rural populations. if you have to drive 50mi to the nearest hospital, you might not go there until things get really bad. of course that's true of all people who live far from cities.

You seem obsessed with massive consumption of alcohol. Why is that? I am arguing that SMALL amounts are healthy. Of course drinking oneself to oblivion every night is unhealthy, no-one denies that. By a glass of wine with a meal or a couple of beers watching the football is not inherently bad for you.
