I am not un-guilty of such a page, myself (i.e., wear sunglasses), but it was intended as a bit of a joke (using the organization's color as a background). The event starts after the first 'enter', but the front page's original background was the same. Should the background image render slowly, you'll get an immediate eye-full. Here^ The text behind translates to 'The stone that the builder's rejected has become the head of the corner', which is very relevant to the organization.

I actually started getting queasy looking at that. something with that color scheme was giving me almost a feeling of vertigo.... weird. and scary.
It used to be what you know that got you ahead, then it was who you know, now its what you know about who you know that gets you ahead. Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow. You can't scare me, I have children.

At least it is readable. I have seen color schemes that are unreadable because there is insufficient contrast. At least it is not as bad as it was when the html first became popular.

Reminds me of 'The gr1d' (a programming game that seems to have died). The developer just set it up so the site picked a random colour-scheme from kuler every hour, and just left it that way. Some of those themes just didn't work for a webpage...
