A medic or in the case of the USMC Corpsman see a lot of horrific things in combat and I would rather he knew what he was doing prior to tending my wounds. Doctors used to use cadavers, don't know if they still do or not but it gives them some very practical training.

When I was in combat training (USMC 67) our instructor sat us all down in some low bleachers, killed a rabbit, gutted it and threw the guts up into the bleachers. It had no practical purpose other than expose us to death, that's what they were teaching us. If you've never seen something like that there's no way to explain it to you and no way to prepare you for it.

I would have thought a stint in any local hospitals A&E truma section would be better training... especially given the amount of people killed by guns every year over there. but i do agree with your premise of preparation being needed

Would you rather they train on humans? As a veteran I'm damn glad the medics didn't have to practice on me.
