He's got a charming smile. If a developer smiles he has the malicous smile of a successful prank, the triumphant smile of conquering a bug, or the disturb-me-not corner-of-the-mouth-twitch for someone bringing you fresh, hot tea. That smile is not a developer smile.

Well, I am self taught, went from starting to program Win32 with C++ when I was a 14 year old, worked as a QA developer at a Fortune 500 company when I was 16, published my first programming article when I was 18 and then taught myself Linux from scratch when I started and then finished my Ph.D. in Astrophysics which I got when I was 27 and couldn't have done it without just picking up whatever I need to know on my own, so yea there are some folks out there who don't have a need for formal classes etc and can just go at it.
