    I know just what you mean :(. Ever since upgrading I've had problem with it not remembering my user/key combo, forcing me to renter every now and again. More disturbingly is that when I contacted their technical support group telling them about this, they replied telling me they have forgotten my user/key combo too! Now I have the not so pleasant task of searching through old email archives to locate the invoice number before they'll even so much as reply to me. If it helps you at all, I only seem to have to reenter my registration info after MSDev.exe did not exit properly (i.e. it hangs around in memory for a few minutes before I have to end the task manually). Unfortunately this happens a lot on my machine for some reason. I solved the problem by exporting the "Visual Assist" key from the registry into a .reg file which I run before I launch DevStudio. It's not nice but it works. Cheers, James Millson

      Paul, I'm not related to the company producing the product, in any way, and has, as such, no commercial interest in advertising a product release. "Visual Assist", is a extremely usable enhancement for the primary tool used by the people visiting CP: Visual Studio. I do not hear you complaining, when for instance, somebody advertises a new relase of a Microsoft product, which are - to say the least - highly commercial products. I would appreciate, if you would be kind enough to explain why that is. Christian Skovdal Andersen

      Christian, I could tell you have no relation to that company. However, as you can also tell this place thrieve on advertisements so the better we avoid this kind of product information the better, especially since it is not a new product. My point was a friendly advice to protect what we have and make it live. It is not to attack you in anyway. Does the content sounds like a complain? Concerning MS stuff, just look above the site and you will find something like "Your Visual Studio Homepage". Besides, most of these are done by Chris himself and he knows his business better!         Hm... I don't think they ought to keep your registration key - once bought it's yours and you should take care of it properly. They might keep the record if they want to, but you should not take it for granted. You want to trade their time against yours (e.g. you want them to do "not so pleasant task of searching through old email archives to locate the invoice").

          Yes I do think that they and every other company that requires a key to run and install the software should keep the registration key and have it available for me if there software craps out and needs it again! I would even expect the software to not crap out and not need it again. My key is somewhere in old email, but I would expect them to have a database with that info.

            As a shareware author, I totally agree. I can't tell you how much time I've wasted when people don't keep track of their own registration numbers. It can get pretty annoying. I have a few customers that habitually lose their key (like once every two to three weeks). In the long run, I probably lose money on these types of customers.               I work for Whole Tomato Software. Our mission is to save time so we agree with other readers that having to reenter a key is a nuisance. Visual Assist does indeed retain a registration key when upgrading or reinstalling but only when the key is legitimate. Visual Assist does not retain illegitimate keys. I have discussed the issue with the two individuals complaining on this board. One obtained an illegitimate key to avoid our nag screen but refrained from purchasing because Visual Assist could not parse some of his code. Fair enough. The second obtained the key from another member of his group--we are still resolving its origin. Users who lose a key can regain it by sending email to support@wholetomato.com.

                    Wow... I paid $99 not too long ago. It was well worth it though. Great product. And unfortunately, Microsoft just can't leave anyone alone. They make Visual Studio with an open architecture, then pull the rug out from under all the plugin makers. They've taken all of VA's ideas and put them into VS.NET.
