Who'd have thunk it, my Zafira broke down at the weekend; again. We'd gone shopping and the car just would not restart when we returned. Very luckily as I popped the bonnet and had a quick look to see if anything was obviously FUBAR a tow truck parked a few bays away from us. The guy said he'd take a quick look. Well, this one couldn't do anything and he gave his mate, who knows Opals, a call. Bloke B says he can't do anything until around 8, so the tow man takes our car to his yard which is closer to town. As a result we walked into Veszprem and had a nice lunch before looking around the old town; never been there in the 5 years we've had the house. When the Opal guy finally arrived, he plugged in his pc and immediately told us that one of the hoofa-doofas was elephanted and needed to be replaced. Five minutes later the car is working. Yay!!! We went home all happy and bouncing like very bouncy bunnies at the World Bouncing Bunny Championships. Come Sunday mornign the fracking tin pile of crap wouldn't start. Elephants and other pachiderms! Opal guy comes over and finds that part of the immobilizer is not working properly [it disabled the fuel pump] so he disconnects it and assures us there should be no further issues; but it might be time to get a new car. So. How was your weekend?

Sunny, hot, couple of dead mice, and Elephant-all on TV. Pretty good (except for the mice, and the TV). :-D

I went to my first game of Australian Rules Football (aerial ping pong) after living in Oz for more than 22 years. The game was average, however the hospitality was outstanding. :-\ come to think of it, I dont recall elephant-all of the game? :-O

Well you would move to foreign climes! Had you had the wit to remain in dear old blighty the tow truck driver would have told you to elephant off, in no uncertain terms and his mate wouldn't have been able to fit you in for at least three weeks. So you have no-one to blame but yourself.

Just take the alarm/immobiliser out. You dont need them on old cars and they are nothing but a pain in the but when they start breaking down. I have had two cars do this, and it is such a bastard when it happens.

The weekend was full of adventure for us. There was a Mini convention on Fured with over 1200 cars from all over Europe; very nice. Yesterday we were took a walk up to the next village to a very nice coffee shop for some well deserved cakes. As we sat outside enjoying the warmth etc etc, the heavens opened and there was one elephant off huge thunder storm. So we stayed and had extra cakes.

On Saturday I took my daughter swimming, pottered around the garden a little bit, then went to see her perform in a show, Dreamboats and Petticoats before returning home to sit in the garden with cold beer. On Sunday I sorted through 6 years of accumulated crap, tried to remove as much as possible from the living room, sanded and painted the door frames and skirting boards whilst getting covered in dirt and dust, and sweating a lot. I preferred Saturday.

It is very nice[^]. the video is in Hungarian, but you can see the cakes and location. They are a very nice couple and we go there pretty much every time we're down.

Fine, thanks for asking. I drove about in my 22 year old Toyota Corolla hatchback I bought 5 years ago from some dodgy prick that put it together from several vehicles. I have done about 140,000 kms in in it and for the last 2.5 years it has taken me back and forth to and from Canberra without a problem. Aside from a broken timing belt I've had no problems. General expected maintenance required of course.

Common problem on minis I used to change mine every year like routine maintenance I got so good at it I could change a set in about 15 minutes, including jacking it and taking the wheels off. It a bit of a pain but they're cheap enough (or they used to be)

We went house hunting with three small kids which was difficult. Saw 9 houses in a day but nothing we really liked. You don't have much luck with cars do you?
