South Africa v England rugby test series.
-
In a short while the Boks play the first of three tests against England in Durban. Both teams are going through many changes and England's noobies really showed potential in the Six Nations. The Boks on the other hand are having to bring in new blood as well and a number of the older players who were the backbone of the team (Smit, Matfield, Botha to name three) have retired and injuries have affected others. I hope my team (bokke) win the series 3-0 but you know, I think England are going to do very well in this series. If England don't 3-0 or 2-1 then I'll be surprised. Either way, the gap between north and south has shrunk over the last few years. Whatever the outcome in S'Effrica, I'm pretty sure we're going to see some excellent rugby.

You may not have seen the results from tonights matches in NZ and Australia. ;P (and Austalia doesnt really count as a proper rugby nation, more convcts play airial pingpong) Only SA and NZ count, and soon the Argies.

Fire, brimstone, death, destruction and plague, may it rain down on you! I'm just relieved Oz scraped home against the Irish. At the same time I was watching the Swans squeeze out a win in the AFL, Oh and the wife went to Opera in the park so an excellent evening all round in my opinion.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity RAH

49 minutes to go... But I do not think the Bokke will do much today... first game of the season as a team. New coach as well. Let's hope for the best. Lets open up a can of jubilee on the English team!
Pox on the BBC. I was at least hoping they'd be showing the game but no, it's only on Sky here in the UK. The best I can do is follow it live on the minute-by-minute updates. Maybe I can catch the highlights later somewhere on the web (planet rugby perhaps?). I'm interested to see and read how Jean de Villiers fares in his first game as Bok captain. By all account I believe he's playing opposite Tuilagi who must be one of the hardest-hitting centres in the world. He'd bring down a JCB or a Cat and wreck their hydraulic systems. :) I think the England series is a hard introduction for the Boks. I'm sure it will help them prepare for the Tri-Nations+1 (whatever it's called this year now that Argentina are on board as well) starting in not too many weeks from now. Rugger is a bloody excellent game :) , eh?

Bad enough having to watch England lose, but I also had the humiliation of my daughter-in-law cheering for every point the Boks won.

Of course I enjoyed the final score so I'll be buying a Sunday paper tomorrow to read the match review. 22-17 seemed to be a fair reflection of the game if the minute-by-minute updates were anything to go by? I half expected the Boks to go into Blue Bulls lockdown-mode as that's where coach Heyneke Meyer came from. Sometimes game plans don't work out but I'm pretty sure England's coach Stuart Lancaster will see positives despite the loss. So, 1-0 to my team but I don't think they'll find it any easier next week. Playing in Joburg will be a different test. Not so much the higher altitude but Joburg's winter grounds are generally harder at this time of year so it should be a more controlled game for both teams.

It was a good hard game, as a Quins fan I was pleased to see the Quins boys do well. Overall our biggest problem was the decision making of the half back pairing. Some wild stuff from Farrell, and youngs service was terrible. Flood to start next week.

Yeah, I read as much from the Sunday Times match review. It seems both teams played a bit worse than usual. I wasn't really surprised that Bismarck du Plessis was declared their man of the match as he's a hard sod to play against. Even Bryan Habana rated highly and he's in his autumn period of his playing career. By all accounts Morne Steyn was way off form with his kicking. Onto midweek and England play the first of two games against regional Barbarian teams. No doubt these'll feature a good slice of Super XV team players from the north and south franchises. I think England may find those a hard slog. Whatever the outcome you have to admire the fitness level of players in the professional union code.
