Microsoft TechNet/MSDN keys will expire at end of subscription period[^] •MSDN subscribers only get five keys for current versions of Windows and Office, and only three for older versions of the operating systems. TechNet subscribers will maintain their three product keys per version ratio. •The numbers of keys that MSDN or TechNet subscribers can claim per day is reduced from (roughly) 55 to around 10. •Unsupported software, like Windows 95 or Office 97 will no longer be available under the new terms. •Subscribers get time-based rights to use the products during the subscription period only. Well, that sucks.

What does "claiming keys" mean? Is Microsoft running out of GUID's?

Probably not :) When you are installing something like Windows 7 for testing purposes, you log into your MSDN account, find the "My Product Keys" and select "Get Another Key" to have the system return a new, valid product key that you can use for your installation. I guess they are reducing the number of keys you can use at any one time. Soren Madsen

Take a look at what they've done to SQL licensing. We're already planning our move off SQL Server.

we cant, to deep into Great Plains to dump SQL server. In fact I just set up a brand new installation just a few months ago. I licensed by Proc instead of user though.. gives me unlimited room for expansion as long as the box can handle it.

Common sense is not a gift it's a curse. Those of us who have it have to deal with those that don't.... Be careful which toes you step on today, they might be connected to the foot that kicks your butt tomorrow. You can't scare me, I have children.
