I've seen a couple interviews with him. I was left with the impression he's dumber than a box of hammers.

Nothing at all. I like hammers. I know a couple personally, including a rather nice sledge. A 'box of hammers', however, is a rather silly idea, unless you are a manufacturer of hammers shipping them to your stores for sales.
