    Aunty[^]:

The average weight gain associated with giving up smoking is much higher than previously thought, experts have found. People can expect to put on up to 5kg (11lb) within a year of quitting, research published on bmj.com[^] suggests.

So, smoking is an appetite suppressant and giving up makes you eat more. I really, really, really must think up a totally obvious thing to study and then I'll apply for my grant.

I know this to be true, the part that sucks is that when one takes up smoking again, the damn weight doesn't come back off. So when I quit again, well... :sigh:

It was broke, so I fixed it.

I put on 8kg when i stopped, and then lost 2 of them. I am now a comfortable 70-72kg and happy with my weight for the first time in my adult life. Smoking sucked.

Obviously the earth is flat, otherwise, things would fall from it. Obviously, nerve cells don't grow back. A very famous neurobiologist proved that many years ago, and counting nerve cells is a hell of a job. Obviously, spinach is high in iron. Everyone knows that. Obviously, condesing a news bite from a general audience publisher to a statement that has nothing to do with the main point of the news bite is an appropriate representation of the value of the underlying study. :grump:

So, if you want to be uber-healthy, you can: -- Spend a fortune on cigarettes to keep your weight down. -- Spend a fortune on high-protein supplements to get your weight up. Or: -- Quit smoking, and save a fortune in getting your weight up. The best course of action seems pretty obvious, to me.

Is sea water wetter than fresh water? If you throw a Liberal Democrat in a bath, is it the Lib Dem or the water that gets wetter? I can see a lot of research is needed here. :-D

You could weigh 110lbs for that, which is quite waifish.

Get a grant to study the effects of gravity. Hmm, sure seems like ever time I let go of this ball it falls to the ground. But will it always happen? Time for science!

So why the hell am I hungry all day long? Though to be fair I eat 1.5 - 2 meals a day - one 2 course + desert, depending on if I have something fun to do in the evenings and I forget to eat/too lazy to eat more than fruit/sandwiches.
