Actually it's 'Anglicised', not 'Americanized'. It's an 'English' name as are most 'American' names in this form. 'American' isn't a language, it's a culture. [Dons flame retardent suit and stands back]

The LinkedIn profile says he's in Cochin (Kochi), checking that out on Wikipedia it says it has a very long Portuguese connection. So my best guess is that he has a very Catholic name (which it is), and I'm betting his parents gave it to him. Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

I brought it up 'cause it made an Idian guy laugh and he thought it was from the outsourcing wave. I agreed with him...

In fact, the history of Christianity in India goes far beyond this. St. Thomas, one of the twelve Apostles of Christ visited India soon after the departure of Christ - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_the_Apostle[^]. There's even a St. Thomas Mount in Chennai, a major city in India.

As an Indian put it acerbically to a European missionary, Indians have been Christians when Europeans were swinging from tree to tree!

A culture is a nasty germ that you grow in a petri dish, to see if antibiotics will get rid of it.

I don't use my real name for CP, either. And my wife uses an anglicised name, because idiot westerners have trouble pronouncing her real name. How is the "w" pronounced in your name? How many times do you have to tell people?

It's fairly common for Christians in India to have anglicized names.

Exactly how it reads. Though a few people correctly replace it with a "V" if they know already. I don't have to tell anyone about that little rule. I mostly have to tell them "Hey you!" works in place of the last name.
