Well, I've been doing some research on my own and thus far I'm leaning more towards the Android(Samsung s3) instead of waiting for the iPhone5. I'm a software engineer... Does anyone have any input ? Thoughts ? Experience ?

They are all very similar, get the one that does what you want. I got a Samsung ACE because it has all the features I need, at the price I was prepared to pay.

One of these days I'm going to think of a really clever signature.

Android. More variety among which to choose. I have a Droid, my wife has a Samsung Stratosphere, our son has a Pantech. And the Kindle Fire has it too.

Have you looked into some of the Windows Phone 7 or the soon to be released WP8 devices? They shouldn't be overlooked, everybody I know who is running WP7 is quite impressed with it.

I considered WP, but Verizon seems to be keeping people away from it. (Only one (HTC) phone supported, and it needed to be special ordered. No plans to support the Nokia 900 (or whatever).)

I'm a big Android fan, but I must admit that iOS is still more polished, even than 4.1 Jelly Bean. That said, Android is much more open and you can find apps that do the most absurd things.

I would consider any that would allow you to sync your e-mail messages between the phone and the computer... As far as I've seen in my Blackberry I can't do that if I don't have BES which is more expensive than BIS and moreover I would need an Exchange server... :((

Given the recent ruling against samsung you might want to consider what might be the consequences of a diminished market for that phone for you. That of course might not happen (diminished market) but it might be a consideration.

One thing you can't do with an iPhone - switch out the battery! I was waiting in line the other day waiting for a store to open and a teen girl was going up and down the line looking for someone with an iPhone charger as her battery ran down  Yes, there are a few Android phones that also seal the battery in (like at least one of the Motorola Razr models), but with my S2, it only takes a few seconds to pop in a new one when battery gets low...

I've not asked. But I don't understand why people feel they are entitled to OS upgrades on mobile devices, you wouldn't expect to get the next version of Windows for free on a PC, just security updates and patches.
