In the Page Style drop down you can select the old style and the entire site reverts to the old look and feel so everyone is happy.

This is a developer's site.  Developers mostly do not use tablets to develop.  The excess vertical margins around text works when you want people to be able to click links with their fingers.  On a desktop or laptop screen, it only serves to reduce the amount of material visible on a page.  This is not a good thing.  Also, light grey on white is not efficient, no matter how hip, cool, trendy or 21st century you want to believe it is. CP exists because of (and for) developers.  It would be a shame to force its readers to seek information at other sites that are easier to view. Thanks for reading this. /ravi

Well said,. Whilst I quite like the new look, the vast acreage of white space is ridiculous.

Page Style drop down? Is this for real, or it's been hard-coded to be hidden from me?

It's for real.  But there's some crafty JavaScript that only makes it visible for users whose first name is "Ennis Ray". :) /ravi

I agree. I liked the old style better. Easy to navigate and very little wasted space. I want content, not acres of empty white page.

I use the fluid layout, there's still lots of wasted vertical space.

Is it too much work to auto-detect the requesting device and render the appropriate version of the page? i.e. big space for tap (mobile device) , small spacefor click (laptop)?

It's possible, but that requires more work.  Given that the CP staff are already working around the clock, I'm hoping they can address the 80/20 use case first. /ravi
