Damn you Paul! You stole my thunder. When I saw benjymous' comments I immediately recalled a conversation with a *cough* relative. I had read the Illuminati's trilogy which is a wonderfully funny spoof on all of the conspiracy theories and advised this person to read it. The funny thing is he was convinced it was an account of actual events and events to come. "Veni, Vidi, Booyah!" - Ceasar

Tell your *cough* relative *cough* that in fact the white man never landed in Africa and that the black man very cleverly made up the whole rape and pilage of Africa by the white man to get free aid and sympathy. I mean really, what better story to get a free meal ticket than that? Chris Austin wrote: I had read the Illuminati's trilogy which is a wonderfully funny spoof on all of the conspiracy theories and advised this person to read it I have not read it, worth getting a hold of?

I hope you're not calling me stupid, since my knowledge of that newspaper is minimal.

So, "under-educated" people are stupid ? :~ Nothing personal there, just taking the opportunity I see the adjective stupid a lot in these days in the forums. I'm affraid it could be the expression of a complex of superiority over other workers, particularly manual workers. Too many believe diplomas make intelligence.

 No, quite the opposite We're talking about the kind of newspaper that'd happily print "Elvis is alive and works in Wal-Mart" stories, and, sadly, there are plenty of people out there who'd read it and believe it must be true because it's in a newspaper -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!

Yeah, I hate it when people of higher education call manual laborers stupid because they are not of the same education level. When I call somebody stupid, I am usually referring to either their maturity level (which is really a slang use of stupid) or lack of common sense. Just because you have a college degree doesn't mean you're not stupid (hence the term educated idiot). However, these words are defining a relation of inequality by lowering the stupid/silly "subject", aren't they? Like any other language, isn't it? ;) As I said to Mr benjymous, I took the opportunity to express myself on this point rather than making a specific comment on his message.
