So they found something, they think, that's History Making - but they're not going to tell us for a few weeks while they check the results... What do you reckon?

It has got to be either a Lancaster bomber or a London Transport double decker bus. People from the UK will know what I mean. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunday_Sport[^]

Haven't read Heinlein for ages. Got something to do for Christmas.

I doubt it, I just walk into a building and lose my signal.

Honestly, they've probably found clay. Clay needs water to form so that's a pretty big deal.

I hope not ( at least I hope that's not all). There seems little doubt there was water on Mars in the past - so I wouldn't call finding clay 'history making' I won't settle for less than direct evidence of life.

Someone forgot to curb their dog (and left the pickup bag at home)!

I'm expecting a big let-down. Something like 'slightly rounded pebbles that might indicate there was water here a billion years ago' or 'nearly three times the amount of potassium that our model predicted'. That way, if it's really a bicycle, it'll be even more exciting.

They already found water, so the only thing more history making would probably be to find evidence of life. They can't find actual living life, as that would shake up too many religions -- even if they found it, they can't find it. We'll probably know if they found actual living life more by whether the manned Mars mission gets cancelled or not.

We can program with only 1's, but if all you've got are zeros, you've got nothing.

(Sorry, I'm new here. Are serious predictions permitted? :~) Most likely it will be Mellitic acid. This will indeed be added to the history books, because Mellitic acid is an organic compound. However, the discovery will only warrant a footnote in those textbooks because the most likely origin of the compound is meteorite bombardment. Bonus prognostication: The discovery will be overhyped by the media as evidence of life on Mars.
