Why wouldn't a technocracy work?

"In a technocracy, decision makers would be selected based upon how knowledgeable and skillful they are in their field." Who does the selecting? Whatever form of government you use power corrupts, and those with the power eventually become concerned with nothing more than keeping it. You might as well form a government of village idiots. The Civil Service actually does everything, and however you choose the public face of the government the country will run as before.

Searches frantically for the 5 button but gets really pissed off to find it's gone. :)

The U.S. wasn't supposed to be a democracy, maybe the flaw is that it is becoming more democratized? The Civil War and the Direct Election of Senators were the big facilitators but historical there are enumerable events that all moved towards a massive federal government elected by a "democracy". But back to your question. Have you never had an argument with another tech person where your opinion was not chosen in favor of another, who was technically inferior but liked better by the boss or had more seniority?
Need custom software developed? I do custom programming based primarily on MS tools with an emphasis on C# development and consulting. I also do Android Programming as I find it a refreshing break from the MS. "And they, since they Were not the one dead, turned to their affairs" -- Robert Frost

I think that's why Hilter invaded Poland.

We'd have problems naming national parks, especially those with compound names. yellowStone YellowStone Yellowstone park_YellowStone
Parks shall henceforth be identified by GUIDs: Yellowstone => {c4afa8ab-3f75-47a7-bd8e-668250abd894} Yosemite => {2297c9bc-e263-4a6a-9111-5e959e6a27d3} ...

Since democracy is obviously failing there is a need to find another form of government. The suggestion to adopt a technocracy [^]has been put on the table. Let's evaluate the idea - see any problems?
We'd still argue over where to place the tax brackets -- New line? Same line? Indented?

Here in the US we've already tried legislating using a variant of Schrodinger's cat. "You have to pass the law to find out what's in it" If only it was a laughing matter. :((

The United States invariably does the right thing, after having exhausted every other alternative. -Winston Churchill America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between. -Oscar Wilde Wow, even the French showed a little more spine than that before they got their sh*t pushed in.[^] -Colin Mullikin
