Hovering the mouse at the top of the window doesn't display the floating menu/command bar?

Nope. (And can't double-check now, since Alt-F4 worked just fine to get rid of it :p ) But F11 (shift or ctrl or naked) just toggles a Maximized window). It had to be a ctrl or alt key sequence. The way I type, the F keys are way out of range without effort.

So..what bizarre keystokes did I manage to stumble upon while typing that made my IE9 full screen. No, not maximized. Full screen. No frame to it at all. No obvious way to put it back to normal.

Have to agree with the others that say F11. Press it and wait a moment, it will look like it maximized it but if you wait a few seconds the top should hide itself.

But another F11 should have brought it back to normal, and a mouseover should have dropped the top down. Maybe my system just went into a coma a little while and went all kiosky on me.

Did the page you were on have any Flash/other similar embedded things? Because those can sometimes hide input from the browser (which is very annoying when you try to use a shortcut and can't figure out why it isn't working...).

It was a Lounge reply-to-message page, so I hope not.

I wish. They've only just now rolled out Win7 to us.

Thanks, I have had that problem before, and I hate it. Lot of things that Windows 7 does for me I hate.

F11 works on my system, and has done ever since the first version of IE I used in the last millenium. And if you move the mouse to the top of the screen a toolbar slides into view. Click on the View selector in the menu for confirmation.

One of these days I'm going to think of a really clever signature.

F12. (though on Chrome it's F11). [edit]Actually, it's F11 on IE too. Hmm...I'm totally confused now.) The first time that happened to me, I had to figure out what key my cat had pressed. Not sure I was using IE though, as some other products support this as well. Marc

My dog trod on my laptop the other week and text in Outlook became huge. So I made the font smaller til it looked normal. Then everyone was receiving email with tiny words. He'd done something to the zoom level, I didn't know there was one.

Powershell is quicker for me. I keep it open, so I would just type

                            get-process iexplore.exe|kill
