I go to a fair number of Microsoft based developers events and I'm always amazed at the number of Apple laptops I see. One presenter was running Visual Studio on a Mac, I presume in a virtual environment. I love the beauty of Apple products, but not the price, and as a developer using Microsoft technology using a Mac seems a positive disadvantage. Am I missing something?

    All round good guy.

Not yet, but if you sell your soul to Apple you certainly will be.

One of these days I'm going to think of a really clever signature.

When you buy a laptop do you buy a good high quality model or the cheapest POS you can find?

The left out the best quality you can afford. Mine was a Lenovo i3. Not the greatest, but it works. Well.

              That's implied.

Can we assume then that you drive a 1974 Ford Pinto? Because anything more is just a waste of money. ;P

Well, the guy I know that uses one for his win development does so because he also develops apps for iOS. Snce you have to have a Mac for that, he doesn't want to carry around two laptops.

That would be a bad assumption. However, you can assume that if I did drive a 1974 Ford Pinto that it wouldn't have a Chevy engine in it. And before you waste your time, please don't Google the image of a souped up 1974 with a 500 HP Ferrari engine in it. Just stop already. ;P

Your analogy made perfect sense pre-virtualization and/or before Intel Macs with BootCamp but now... a Mac makes an excellent hardware platform for Windows development. Since the same hardware can be used for OSX and iOS development - it's better yet.
