A couple of weeks back we had a new guy start and nobody likes him. The problem is he is very insistent on talking to us and up intil now we have just ignored him but he keeps persevering and doesn't get the message that we don't like him. We've had words with the Boss and he seems to understand he made a mistake hiring him so hopefully soon he will make amends by firing him.

Working as a professional has nothing to do with liking your co-workers. Hopefully the boss will wise up and fire the right people.

Why don't you like him? Is he less than optimally hygenic? Is he a crappy developer? Does he hold radical political views? Does he have a physical deformity that is obvious and distracting? Does he pick his nose?

I guess he's overweight. From the descriptions he sounds like the sort to switch jobs just because the new office is nearer.

I think your plan is horrible. Not liking a coworker, if he's a good worker, is no reason to try and get him fired. Everyone wants to work, and it sounds like he's talking to you because you're all giving him the cold shoulder. Try some compassion, man! What if you were the new person and no one yet liked you? Should you LOSE YOUR JOB? NO, NO, NO!

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that. - George Carlin
