SSD suggestions

I am looking to get an SSD (250 or so GB) and came across these highly rated ones on Amazon. Wondering if any of you have good or bad experiences with these :
- Samsung MZ-7TD250BW 840 Series Solid State Drive (SSD) 250 GB Sata 2.5-Inch[^] - $179.76
- SanDisk Extreme SSD 240 GB SATA 6.0 Gb-s 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SDSSDX-240G-G25[^] - $171.99
- Intel 520 Series Solid-State Drive 240 GB SATA 6 Gb/s 2.5-Inch - SSDSC2CW240A3K5 (Reseller Kit)[^] - $244.99
Not sure why 240 GB seems to be so popular, or even 250. I was initially searching for 256 GB drives, but 240 seems to be the most popular size.

Laptops are very small. To get the SSDs to fit they had to sand them down a little with a commercial belt sander. That usually results in 6 - 16GB lost on the shop floor. Just be sure you don't pick up a dodgy model made from the floor-sweepings. It's not pretty.

Laptops are very small. To get the SSDs to fit they had to sand them down a little with a commercial belt sander. That usually results in 6 - 16GB lost on the shop floor. Just be sure you don't pick up a dodgy model made from the floor-sweepings. It's not pretty.

I have 3 OCZ Vertex SSDs, almost 2 years now and no problem (these all have Samsung controller). Go for Intel one, and skip the ScanDisk.

Rather go for the Sammy 840 Pro. Much better performance. I have 2 Crucial M4 128GB ones. I like them.

I just chuck mine in ;p My PC is not movable. They are so light, you can probably just mount them in place with some doublesided sellotape or bluetack.

[^] I assume the firmware problem with the 840 series has been fixed. Note that the Samsung 830 256 mb. I'll second leppie suggestion. Regular Samsung 840 is using TLC nand which has significantly shorter life span than MLC. And while most likely TLC will outlive the rest of your PC, in my opinion the data and peace of mind is worth a little extra, so I would go with 840 Pro which still uses MLC. If you search slickdeals for the best deal 256GB 840Pro goes for as low as $210 on sale.
