First of all I think it doesn't make any sense to compare both nations as they had a completely different history, not only regarding war. Stan Shannon wrote: How many did you guys start? But you can't disregard the European history. War had been a fundamental part of European politics for hundreds of years. And unfortunately some people adopted that way of governing, in case of WWII paired with insanity and more doubtable reasons than ever before. But do you think America had a peaceful history at all? What about the all the Indians killed or dispeled? What about centuries of slavery? Surely these didn't reach the dimension of WWI/WWII, but the reasons are the same questionable. And to come back to today's policy: preemptive war doesn't sound like political correctness, does it?

You can only influence somebody when reaching him with your message - and the easiest way to reach people is the methods you mentioned. But I think the papers don't need much effords to 'manipulate' people - the people are doing it on their own, espacially if a news is sensational enough. And the papers aren't everytime interested in politics - what they want is high outsells, and politics is a capable method to reach that goal. Especially nowadays, when politics is number one topic of conversation. Influencing people sometimes is only a side-effect when people believe and adopt all the papers tell them. But that's too often the case.

Seems to me like you know nothing about our nations. Why do you measure us on the actions of our ancestors? Who often themselves fighted against f***king political influences. But we are people not different from you, living their lifes, having a job and a family. And as I already mentioned in a former post: what about your history? Seems like you really believe the US are heaven on earth. Aren't you reminded on what happened at the beginning of settlement and some centuries on?

Here [^]you may find the comparative casualties resulting from the battle of Yorktown Here [^] is the list of the killed during the campaign, aprroximatively 600 killed for a force of 8,800 men. It's not a ratio comparable to the ones of the battle of Verdun, but it's quiet high in a time when there was no machine-gun, flame thrower or toxic gazes.

I don't believe US land in Normandy to free France, but to defeat Nazism, which is slightly different. A proof of this is the non-intervention of the US before the declaration of war by the 3rd Reich the 12/11/42, another is the original will of the US to impose AMGOT. OTOH, I don't think France intervened in 1781 to help the US, rather to weaken UK. However, don't worry, I would never forget these men and women, I've paid homage to them several times and will do it again in the future, even when GWB will bomb us.
