Remember the ~40,000 Americans (buried in Normandy) who died for your liberation. That's the price WE paid for you. Don't ever forget it, as we will never forget what you did for us.

I don't believe US land in Normandy to free France, but to defeat Nazism, which is slightly different. A proof of this is the non-intervention of the US before the declaration of war by the 3rd Reich the 12/11/42, another is the original will of the US to impose AMGOT. OTOH, I don't think France intervened in 1781 to help the US, rather to weaken UK. However, don't worry, I would never forget these men and women, I've paid homage to them several times and will do it again in the future, even when GWB will bomb us.

Good article from Washington Post. Article[^] Smith, the director of the American Academy, recalls the prosperous and sophisticated German couple who sat next to him on a recent train ride to Berlin. Creators of a successful pharmaceutical research company, they were the kind of people he assumed would be most comfortable with American ideas and values. Instead, he said, they railed against American arrogance and imperial ambitions and refused to concede there might be two sides to the argument. "I was making the case that if we go into Iraq and discover weapons of mass destruction, then the world would come to realize we'd been right," recalls Smith. "And they told me, 'If that happens, it's only because the CIA planted them.' I was floored." Follow live World Cup Cricket scores here[^]

Or because the west sold the weapons in the first place.... "Mr. Rumsfled, what role did you play in the supply of chemical weapons used by Iraq against Iranian civilians ?" Check out US support for Iraq during the Iraq-Iran war, which was fomented by Iraq. :suss: The tigress is here :-D

Yeah, I was refering to the East(Russia/China) and the West(US/UK/etc) splitting everything up after WW2. These people (Germans, Koreans, Vietnamese) had been living together for many centuries and then we come along and split'em up for no good reason. Mike Mullikin

First of all I think it doesn't make any sense to compare both nations as they had a completely different history, not only regarding war. Stan Shannon wrote: How many did you guys start? Let me think about it ... I can't remember any situation in which I started a war ;) OK, to be honest, yes, there'd been 2 wars initiated by German poiticians. But you can't disregard the European history. War had been a fundamental part of European politics for hundreds of years. And unfortunately some people adopted that way of governing, in case of WWII paired with insanity and more doubtable reasons than ever before. But do you think America had a peaceful history at all? What about the all the Indians killed or dispeled? What about centuries of slavery? Surely these didn't reach the dimension of WWI/WWII, but the reasons are the same questionable. And to come back to today's policy: preemptive war doesn't sound like political correctness, does it?

Those number are ludicrous. Most Indian tribes lived in a constant state of war long before we Americans were forced from our ancestral Europeans homes, plunged into a lawless frontier and pitted against them to carve out new empires for European kings. They were constantly waging genocidal wars against one another. The Indians were given every opportunity to defend themselves from us. Where is the casualty count for the numbers of innocent European settlers that the Indians slaughtered? They lost, We won, end of story. "Any clod can have the facts, but having opinions is an art." Thanks for the complement. However, I never said the US was innocent. Just that, all things considered, our record is clearly better than that of Europe's, taken as a whole. You Europeans need to get over the notion that you possess any kind of political/diplomatic historic record to which the world owes some kind of respect. The US has managed world affairs far better than any European government ever did. Without us, you guys would probably still be hacking away at each other like so many mindless dark age barbarians.
