I could see you writing apps FOR it, but not writing apps ON it.

Several years back I was in the Microsoft store and confirmed that Windows (7?) tablet had a "Command Prompt", Notepad, and CSC and I was able to write a console application thereupon.

The Surface pro will debut soon but it's going to feature a Core i5 CPU. I was wodnering if anyone here's found a Windows 8 Pro tablet (or touch-laptop) with a Core i7 CPU.

      Regards, Nish

Is that a real deal breaker issue ? A i7 system will suck up power a bit too much, 1, 2 hours of battery autonomy is not what we want. Tablets are not meant to replace desktop computers (or laptops).

yeah, but I'd rarely if ever use it without a tablet direct power hook-up. My primary use would be to dev/test apps that I write. And maybe even debug directly on the device using VS 2012.

Well, if it has a Core i7, and 8+ GB RAM, I'd hook up a monitor to it and use it for dev or at least for testing. The Pro version runs VS 2012 (unlike the RT version).

Hi Nish, I am unclear exactly what you mean here: are you speaking about using one Tablet with Win8, and another computer, or only speaking of using a Win 8 based Tablet that will always be plugged-in to your electrical system: never "detached" ? I'd be very concerned about product life-span of these first-generation Win 8 tablets, if they are powered by either i5, or i7 (heat). thanks, Bill

“Thus on many occasions man divides himself into two persons, one who tries to fool the other, while a third, who in fact is the same as the other two, is filled with wonder at this confusion. Thinking becomes dramatic, and acts out the most complicated plots within itself, and, spectator, again, and again, becomes: actor.” From a book by the Danish writer, Paul Moller, which was a favorite of Niels Bohr.

Sorry, that was a typo. I meant I'd never use it (or rarely use it) as a battery-run tablet as I'd typically be using it hooked up to power.
