Why not to block the card online or with phone banking , it's much simpler.

It took just over an hour for someone to make that joke, thank god you got here when you did.

The main thing is that I need to pay all the amounts :( then I need to proceed with dispute process... for that I need to file a petition regarding the fraud case then follow up with bank for the dispute, it will take 120 days to get that money back if they feel it was a false charge otherwise I lost it..... In India,All cards are not insured by default, and mine too :( ,fortunately I was able to block the card after getting couple of messges... the hacker was just SPENDING SPENDING SPENDING.

Are you sure? If it is a credit card (not a debit card) then the card issuers (i.e. Visa or Mastercard) operate anti-fraud guarantees, and as long as you reported it as soon as you became aware of the fraud, you should not have to pay for fraudulent transactions. This is one very big reason I use a credit card for purchases online, where I can never be entirely certain who I'm dealing with, and not a debit card (where you're not getting the money back if someone steals it).

Indeed, it's a problem. And that's why, I didnt wanted the credit card once I came to know about this (but then you need it to make online purchases...so). There is no worry-free buying experience, like in US. You can insure the card (multiple cards, even from different banks) for Rs 1600.00/year. so it's not costly, but the hassle is same. you are required to pay the amount, and then fight to get it back. Specially after staying in US, this was so scary that, I had to ask my bank to give me credit-card with lowest available credit (and they wanted to sell me the highest possible limit).

I went to a restaurant once where my card was mysteriously duplicated. I only had one disputed purchase on the card and all was well within 10 days of the transaction, but as a rule I do a quick once-over on my transactions at least once every 2 days if not every day just to make sure nothing out of the ordinary is occurring that I don't know about. I wish you the best and hope everything works out. Cheers.

                  I wasn't, now I am, then I won't be anymore.

Yes, but not a credit card.

Which is why I qualified my statement to debit cards; and why I urge anyone shopping online to get a CC for that purpose and to pay it off in full each month even (especially) if they otherwise use their debit card exclusively.

This is a lesson for me....I will start checking even if not using also :) the funniest part in this was when I had a word with the customer care guy, he said we will pay the amount to the merchandise and after that we will fight for the money :)
