Yes I code for Windows boxes but I use them too! I just spent an incredible waste of time putting together a PowerPoint® presentation and I can't understand what the motive was for taking something that basically worked pretty well and had a friendly interface ( read that almost intuitive ) and muck it up to the point where it is just about useless not to mention annoying! Maybe if I had never used a previous version I’d think it was great…or maybe not! What ever happend to "Don't fix it if it isn't broke!"?

I couldn't agree more and it's not just Powerpoint which I've used since version 3 and of which 4.3 Pro was the pinnacle IMHO. All the MS Office tools have been getting worse for a few years now, Word turned after about 2003. I still hold onto and use some of the ancient versions but compatability issues make that more and more of a problem. I always assumed they were removing options and messing up the UI because US users prefered it that way but I think in the end its just because they have had no serious competition for so long. What else are the Office development team going to do but fiddle with what isn't broken and hand code interop assemblies ( Will drive anyone mad who has not already had the treatment )

I started to get over my Office 2010 grudge when I started to treat it as a new software. It's not PowerPoint anymore, it's something new called PowerPoint. Now, with Office 2013 and the flattened de-ADHD'd ribbon, it's fine.

I find the MSOffice suite awesome. Plus, what are the alternatives ? Try and change a footer in Open Office, and come back in two months. I bought Office 2010 Professional Plus Edition yesterday for 50€ for my new home computer, and this is definitely good invested money.

The only time my computers get rebooted is if an update requires it -- which is why I've got several months' worth of updates backed up on most machines, and one where a reboot has been "postponed for four hours" since October.

If you don't mind telling me where you've gotten that bargain, I'd be glad to know. Everywhere I'm looking it's above 500€ for the Professional version, which is a bit more than I would want to spend right now. Do tell! Cheers!

                                      for my new home computer

And therein lies the tale. For professional or power use, it's turned to garbage. The optimal version is still 2003; everything since is comparatively useless.

That's what I still use at home. Stuck with 2010 or something at work. X| Can't find anything.

Yes, the new interface may be fine for they who haven't been using it for thirty years, horrible for we old dogs. Both interfaces should be available and let the user decide which works best for them.

How on Earth did this get attached to the wrong thread? Did a rung fall off the hamster wheel?
