Sayonara, Chumps!

I was just reading the "RIP Mindy McCready" thread. About 90% of the content in that thread is either unintelligible nonsense (e.g. about some Spy magazine) or morally bankrupt garbage... and I cannot even downvote. I'm not sure if "no downvotes" is personal, specific to the forum, or something else... but the lack of a downvote option basically makes this site unusable for me. Constant protests aside, a downvote is exactly what many of those posts deserve. (A downvote is far too mild for several of them. Anyone who abuses the memory of someone who just died should be banned.) This is the last straw for me. I've already removed all of my content from this site. Now, I'm removing my account. I'm not sure how that works, but I guess I'll just e-mail Chris M. if I have to. CP had a lot of good things going for it at one time. It's unfortunate that there's not a site where people writing long, in-depth articles are appreciated (as opposed to people giving sarcastic "party line" answers to kids doing their homework). Of course, I can't forget WPF zealots, and now, it would seem, dog Chauvinists; such people are apparently embraced here. Sayonara, chumps.
Why are you punishing all the people that could benefit from your articles just because you don't like a few people that frequent a procrastination forum that's actually a very small part of a great site? It's not possible to like all the people of such a big place. So in what way is that different to life? And those few in the lounge can't have been the audience you intended for your articles anyway.

I agree about the Mindy McCready post, not one single person mentioned the two kids she left behind. Suicide has a massive stigma, I think it's still a crime in a lot of places. You are overreacting though.

You are overreacting though. My thoughts exactly, on both accounts. There is a less than a year old baby somewhere in the story who lost both his parents to suicide in 2013.

To quote a character from a certain SBS tv series not known for it's eloquence "Harden-up d*ckhead, stop being such a soft-c*ck". The world's full of people that don't 'get it', don't care and don't get along. Although one can wonder sometimes, the internet isn't full of people from outer-space, it's full of people from the very same world. Why should the internet be any different than the rest of the world? You seem to be implying that their comments have been personally endorsed by the people running the site, and by extension, that the management should not be able to make a financial gain from your input. Seriously, how much revenue do you really think your articles have generated for CP? Do you really consider that removing your articles will have a greater impact on the site as a whole than it will have on the users that have read, enjoyed, learned from and indeed, voted for our articles? Gotta be honest, you seem to be just as childish as the people whom you castigate - certainly not as puerile or cruel, but just as much of a big kid. Harden up!

I finally worked my way back to that thread, I was off from work today so not on here much. I have to agree with you on most of your points, even though I understand I may sometimes act like the type of member that is driving you away from CP. It turned into a pretty idiotic thread. Half people trying to be funny, and half people misdirecting whatever adult angst they have about someone making a decision that millions of people made before her, people they even respect. I feel like if the victim were a renowned musician in English, Irish, German, etc music, the responses would have been less severe, maybe even sincere. But this is CP, and picking on a country musician is just another way to take a shot at Americans in general, or at least the stereotype of Americans. I recommend taking a break from the Lounge, I do it occasionally, especially when people seem to have keyboard diarrhea. It sometimes becomes as juvenile and idiotic as the rest of the internet, the parts of the internet I hate and avoid.

I'm not interested in threads about the hard lives of poor little stupidly rich junkies, so I didn't read the thread. Maybe I should have sthcweamed and sthcweamed until it stopped.

}Attempted suicide is still a crime in many places, as it was in the UK until 1961. Committing suicide was a crime too, punishable by various means at various times, from forfeit of your estate so your family do not get anything to your body being refused proper burial or being mutilated. Most suicide laws are / were based on crimes against one god or another.
