It is slightly sadistic making the rest of the world speak our crazy language. I swaer if I had to learn English as a second language I might just go insane. Still it shows how clever our little kids are - I see 2 year old's speaking this screwed up language! :laugh:
You think English is bad, you want to try Welsh! Even the damn words change their beginnings depending on what word they are following. Makes looking them up in a dictionary a whole new game...

Funnily enough I am at this moment looking at language data from the last 2011 Census. This would not work for around a million people in England and Wales as they speak little or no English. Tower Hamlets is the worst for no English spoken with 3,778 non-English speakers [1.5% of the population]. This compares to Luton with 1,634 [0.8%] and Woking with 229 [0.2%].

Are you claiming this is English? Some colonial bastardization maybe, but certainly not English. In English the past participle of the Dive is Dived. I believe the Merkins used Dove, but they are ignorant savages with no understanding of the language.

Not just empire, there was a lot of deliberate borrowing from Greek and Latin during the middle ages. But that was kind of my point, we're still doing it and it is no bad thing.

Latin and Greek are the basis of Scientific Terminology, and that is no bad thing, it gives a standard that all can relate to.( eg. one can almost picture an animal from its binomial name).

Surrender, Collaborator etc :laugh: [Edit] Grenade is an interesting one, it comes via French from the Spanish for Pomegranate because the early pottery grenades bore a resemblance to them, and the Spanish word ultimately comes from the Latin for grain.
