Actually, I've never been impressed with Reader. The experience was terrible, the way it organized feeds was just confusing, and always required a huge effort to follow them all (instead of displaying everything in a quick glance like iGoogle does). I always loved iGoogle, but it is also going away. None of the alternatives looked appealing, though. Don't know what to do.

I haven't been this irked for a while (perhaps since I saw that movie pretending to be the second Matrix movie). Powering down Google Reader[^] Any recommendations for a replacement? Needs to run on at least both Mac and PC, with syncing.

I've never used an RSS reader, and I have to confess that I don't even know what RSS stands for. (Don't tell me; I like having little mysteries in my life)

I can foresee a whole new wave of RSS alternatives coming up now... ... ... or maybe not...

Me too (or is it neither). To me it stands for Repeatedly Shit Stories.

I'm already using Zite on my iPad (I prefer it over Flipboard), but it's hardly a replacement.

I know. I use reader too, for now. But I figure I'd throw that out there. Haven't tried Zite. Why do you prefer it over FlipBoard?

It seems to learn better what types of articles I actually end up reading. I have it pointing at a number of fairly broad categories (Programming, Web Design, etc.), and I find that many of the items it throws in "Top Stories" actually are stuff that I would have read, but might not have found otherwise. I never felt that way when I was trying out Flipboard. Maybe I just need to try it again and see if it's the same as I remember.

That's how I feel about FlipBoard. I guess it's all in what you repeatedly use.
